The first Bishop of Burundi and Rwanda, Bishop Savvas, was ordained yesterday morning at the St. Savvas Monastery in Alexandria.
Patriarch Theodoros II of Alexandria and All Africa stated that the region is among the poorest in Africa, adding that the Church supports the local people with the establishment of the new bishopric.
Bishop Savvas thanked the Patriarch for the great honor and vowed to dedicate himself to the missionary work performed by the Christian Orthodox Church in the region.
