Chicago Hellenes Honor Congressman Henry Hyde
CHICAGO, 19/3/2004

U.S. Representative Henry Hyde, chairman of Congresss International Relations Committee, was honored recently on behalf of the World Council of Hellenes (SAE) and the United Hellenic American Congress (UHAC) by community leader Andrew A. Athens.

At a lunch hosted in Rosemont and attended by leaders of the two organizations in the Chicago area, Mr. Athens praised the support that Congressman Hyde has provided for issues of interest to the Hellenic community in the U.S.

Every time we have gone to Mr. Hyde with a community issue, he has been very receptive and open to our suggestions, Mr. Athens said. This interest has included our concerns regarding the just settlement of the Cyprus conflict and, especially, U.S. support for the medical relief program that we operate in the Newly Independent States of the former Soviet Union.

Regarding medical relief he has told us repeatedly, I will always support you because it is a program that helps people in great need. And we do not hesitate to go to see him.

The medical relief program provides basic health care to destitute Hellenic communities and their neighbors in Georgia, Ukraine, Armenia and Albania. Mr. Athens is President of SAE and National Chairman of UHAC.
