The President of the World Council of Hellenes Abroad (SAE), Mr. Andrew A. Athens has arrived in Athens on the occasion of the Official Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games.

�These are the happiest days of our lives�, Mr. Athens said. �Already the world media is focusing on Greece, which although the smallest country to ever organize Olympic Games, has proved that it has the ability to ensure all necessary infrastructure and means in order to organize successful and safe Games. We are certain that the Games of Athens will promote all Olympic principles and values of humanity and friendship.

The SAE Board and I would like to thank all Hellenes around the world who have supported with all their hearts the promotion of the Olympic Games and the Olympic Truce around the world as well as for the participation of thousands of Hellenes Abroad to the Olympic Volunteerism Program�.

During his visit in Athens, SAE President will meet with the Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Petros Molyviatis and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Panayiotis Skandalakis. Mr. Andrew E. Manatos, President of the National Coordinated Effort of Hellenes (CEH), will also attend the meeting. Mr. Athens has been invited to attend the works of the 5th Convention of the World Interparliamentary Association of Hellenes (PADEE) in Nafplio, where as an official guest will deliver a speech on August 14, 2004.

Tomorrow evening, Mr. Andrew A. Athens will attend the Official Opening Ceremony of the Games at the Olympic Stadium while on Saturday will attend a reception hosted by the head of the USA Olympic Delegation, former President of the United States, Mr. George Bush.

On August 17 Mr. Athens will have a meeting with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Panayiotis Skandalakis. SAE Alternate President, Mr. Stefanos Tamvakis, SAE Vice-Presidents, Coordinators for N. & S. America, Europe and Asia-Africa, Mr. Chris Tomaras, Mr. Angelo Aslanidis and Mr. Vasilis Magdalinos, and SAE Treasurer, Mr. Cos Georganas, will also attend the meeting.

During the same event Mr. Athens will host a dinner in honor of the winners of the SAE Program �Teach Olympics� who are in Athens. The Alternate Minister of Culture, Ms. Fani Palli-Petralia, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Panayiotis Skandalakis and the Russian MP, Mr. Ioannis Savvidis are expected to attend.

On August 20, Mr. Athens will attend the formal dinner hosted by the Mayor of Athens, Ms. Dora Bakoyianni in honor of the Mayor of New York, Mr. Michael Bloomberg.
