ALTERNATE PRESIDENT
Statement for the unexpected loss of the Patriarch of Alexandria and all Africa, Petros VI
Alexandria, 11/9/2004

SAE Alternate President and Honorary President of the Community of Alexandria, Mr. Stefanos P. Tamvakis expressed his deep grief for the unexpected loss of the Patriarch of Alexandria Petros VI and the members of his delegation.

We are shocked from the tragic loss of the Patriarch Petros VI and his delegation. For all of us who live in Alexandria and for me personally these are very difficult times. The loss of our shepherd whom we all supported from the beginning is for Ecumenical Hellenism a great shock.

I was fortunate to grow up with the Patriarch, to dream and fight together for Hellenism and Orthodoxy.

There are no words to describe our grief for the loss of the other members of the Patriarchs delegation. Among them were my childhood friend Giorgos Xenoudakis who for all these years has supported the Hellenic Community and the Patriarchate, Patroklos Papastefanou and Giorgos Mavros, who were also supporters of both Hellenism and Orthodoxy.

During the following days we will begin to realize the emptiness created in Egypt and all Africa. I would like to express my condolences to the families of all those who were lost at this tragic accident.

From the Office of the Alternate President
