The President of the World Council of Hellenes Abroad (SAE), Mr. Andrew A. Athens extended his stay in Athens in order to attend the memorial service for the Patriarch of Alexandria and all Africa Petros Z�.
SAE Board decided In lieu of wreaths, to donate the amount of �10.000 in honor of the deceased, in support of the God-pleasing and very significant work of the Patriarchate and it�s Missions in Africa and to support through special projects, the work of the Metropolises of the Patriarchate of Alexandria, thus honoring the will of the Patriarch.
During his stay in Athens, SAE President met on September 14 with the President of the Hellenic Parliament, Ms. Anna Psarouda-Benaki, who he informed of the Medical Program of SAE in the countries of the former Soviet Union and in Albania.
At a meeting he had at the same day with the A� Vice-President of the Hellenic Parliament, Mr. Georgios Sourlas, Mr. Athens discussed the utilization of the world of the MPs of Hellenic origin around the world, through the World Interparliamentary Union of Hellenism (PADEE) and SAE. The two men also discussed the possibility for the organizing of a World Convention for Hellenism with the participation of distinguished individuals.
SAE President also met with the General Secretary of Social Solidarity of the Ministry of Health and Social Solidarity, Ms. Ioanna Despotopoulou, who requested a complete list of needs for SAE�s Medical Program in order to proceed to coordinated actions.
Last week Mr. Athens attended the opening of the 69th International Trade Fair of Thessaloniki, and the reception hosted by the U.S. Ambassador Mr. Thomas Miller and the Hellenic-American Chamber of Commerce.
During his stay in Thessaloniki SAE President met with the Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Panayiotis Skandalakis and Mr. Yiannis Valinakis. Especially during the meeting with Mr. Skandalakis the two men discussed issues relevant to the next SAE Board Meeting that will take place in November in Thessaloniki. Mr. Athens also met with the A� Vice-President of the Special Permanent Committee of the Parliament for Issues of Hellenism Abroad, Mr. Grigoris Niotis. Regarding the nomination of Thessaloniki for the organizing of EXPO 2008, Mr. Athens repeated the full support of SAE to the efforts for the promotion of Thessaloniki�s bid around the world.
