WORLD COUNCIL OF HELLENES ABROAD
Thessaloniki, 9/7/2004
The Coordinating Council of SAE America expresses heartfelt Congratulations to the Greek National Soccer Team for the magnificent victory that earned them the European Cup 2004.
With a special letter to the captain of the Team Theodoros Zagorakis and the coach Oto Rehagel, Mr. Chris Tomaras, Vice-President & Regional Coordinator of the N. & S. America Region, expresses the sentiment of the Coordinating Council and of the entire Greek Community, elevating the accomplishment of the victory to a level of mythical proportions and comparing it with important events such as the revival and the return of the Olympic Games to Greece in 1896.
Your victory is a source of ultimate ethnic pride and indescribable enthusiasm for Hellenes all over the world. We express our deepest gratitude to you and to all the players of the Team, that with your accomplishment you let the world know once again the magnificence of the Hellenic spirit
stressed Mr. Tomaras in his letter.
In conversations with the members of the Coordinating Council and with Hellenic Community representatives, there was a definite sense that 2004 is the
Year of Greece
since it is expected to mark similar victories by the Greek athletes in the upcoming Olympic Games.
