MEDICAL CARE FACILITY IN JERUSALEM'S PATRIARCHATE TO BE DISCUSSED BETWEEN THE PATRIARCH AND SAE PRESIDENT
Chicago, 4/1/2002

Andrew A. Athens, President of the World Council of Hellenes (SAE), is scheduled to visit Jerusalem in March to discuss with Jerusalem Patriarch Ireneios the creation of a Medical Center in the Patriarchate. This facility, which will serve primarily Hellenes and Christian Palestinians, is part of the Basic Medical Care Initiative already helping Hellenes and their neighbors in the Black Sea area and Albania.

"We will continue to keep an ear on the ground to determine the needs of Hellenes around the world," Mr. Athens emphasized. "We are continuously strengthening our institutions and I am certain that as long as unity and love prevail we will continue to support Hellenism and Orthodoxy peacefully."

Mr. Athens also expressed his anticipation that the formal recognition of Patriarch Ireneios by the Israeli government is imminent following the special government committee determination that the accusations against the Patriarch were fake. SAEs President has worked tirelessly with the Israeli government, the U.S. government and Jewish organizations supporting the Patriarch in Greece and the U.S.
