SAE President, Mr. Andrew A. Athens visited Albania on June 22 & 23 in order to assess the needs in areas of Southern Albania and discuss the possibility of the establishment of a new Medical Center. Upon his arrival in Tirana, Mr. Athens along with the Archbishop of Tirana and All Albania, Mr. Anastasios and the Medical Director of SAE�s Medical Program, Dr. Charles Kanakis, left for Himara where they visited various areas that could be used for the establishment of a Medical Center.

�We are on a good track. I am very satisfied of the cooperation we have with the Archbishop Anastasios, who enjoys all our respect and support�, Mr. Athens said. �I believe that by the end of the year we will be in a position to plan the establishment of one more Medical Center in Himara for all who are need�.

At the same evening Mr. Athens attended a dinner hosted by the Archbishop Anastasios at the Archdiocese in Tirana.

SAE President had also a telephone conversation with the Prime Minister of Albania, Mr. Fatos Nano, who thanked Mr. Athens for his work and expressed his fully support to any new endeavor.

On June 23, Mr. Athens and Dr. Kanakis visited the Medical Center of the Archdiocese in Georgoutsates, which operates with the support of SAE. The Medical Center was inaugurated at the end of November 2003 by the Archbishop Anastasios and the SAE President, and is offers free medical services to approximately 100 persons per month, with the number of patients continuously increasing. The modern biochemical laboratory, the blood and x-ray departments, as well as all other medical equipment, offer all citizens of the area high quality medical care. The vaccination of 1100 children for Hepatitis B, and a preventive dental project will soon begin. At the same time the doctors of the Hospital of Ioannina visit regular on a volunteer basis the Medical Center.

Prior to his visit to Albania, SAE President met on June 21 with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Petros Molyviatis with whom he discussed the operation and further development of SAE�s Medical Program. The two men discussed issues regarding the program�s funding and the support of the Omogeneia to the promotion of our national issues, with first that of Cyprus, in cooperation with the Governments of Greece and Cyprus.

Yesterday Mr. Athens met with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Panayiotis Skandalakis with whom he discussed issues regarding SAE�s Strategic Planning for the years 2004-2010. The strategy plan is being prepared and will be presented during SAE Board next meeting that is scheduled to take place in Nicosia, Cyprus.

During his stay in Athens, SAE President also met with the President and A� Vice-President of the Special Permanent Committee of the Parliament for Issues of Hellenism Abroad, Mr. Evgenios Haitidis and Mr. Gregory Niotis.

Today, SAE President departs for Constantinople where he will have a special meeting with the Ecumenical Patriarch, Mr. Bartholomew to whom Mr. Athens will convey the full support and respect of SAE. Mr. Athens will accompany His Holiness, Mr. Bartholomew to his visit to the Vatican following the invitation of the Pope John Paul II.

On July 2, SAE President will depart from Rome to Moscow in order to participate at the events for the arrival of the Olympic Flame on July 3. The following day, Mr. Athens will attend the awarding ceremony for the winner of SAE�s Teach Olympic Project that was organized at public schools of the Russian capital. The award for the winner is a trip to Athens during the Olympic Games. The winner will be accompanied to Athens by his/her parents and his/her teacher.
