SAE President presents his report at SAE Board Meeting in Thessaloniki
Thessaloniki, 1/6/2004
The World Council of Hellenes Abroad (SAE) Board Meeting began today in SAEs offices in Thessaloniki with the discussion of the organizations action plan until the end of the year, including SAEs Strategic Planning for the period 2004-2010.
SAE President, Mr. Andrew A. Athens mentioned that based on the decisions and resolutions of SAEs 5th World Convention, the experience and the knowledge the organization has gained during all these years, and in cooperation with the government and all political parties, SAE moves towards the development of mid-term and long-term activities that will lead to the achievement of SAEs vision and goals.
Our goal is the restructure of the organization in such a way so as to allow us to become more efficient in our effort to approach as many as possible Hellenes, to attract distinguished individuals of Hellenic origin and to develop SAE into an organization that will operate as the main link among the Omogeneia and Greece, Mr. Athens stated, noting at the same time the necessity for the support of the National Fund of Hellenes Abroad (ETO), in order to ensure SAEs financial autonomy.
Special priority will be given to youth, culture and education programs and projects based on regional needs, as well as to the further expansion and development of SAEs Medical Program, which already operates with five Medical Centers in the countries of the Black Sea and Albania, where SAE in cooperation with Archbishop Anastasios is operating in Georgoutsates a Medical Center.
Prior to SAE Board Meeting, SAE President Mr. Andrew A. Athens met in Tirana, with the Prime Minister of Albania, Mr. Fatos Nano and discussed the possibility for further expansion of the Medical Program at three other Albanian cities (Himara, Koritsa and Skodra). Mr. Athens expressed his satisfaction for the warm welcome and the support of the Albanian Prime Minister to SAEs work in the area.
In sight of the Olympic Games SAE moves successfully towards the completion of the very successful project Teach Olympics that is being implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture-General Secretariat for the Olympic Games. Mr. Athens repeated his certainty that the Olympic Games in Athens this summer will be both very successful and safe and that will make all Hellenic Omogeneia proud.
Finally, SAE President stressed the fact that the primary goal for SAE remains the promotion of our National Issues such are Cyprus Issue, issues relevant to the Ecumenical Patriarchate and the Patriarchate of Jerusalem, at the important decision making centers.
