On Tuesday June 25, 2004 an event was organized in honor of the Alternate President of the World Council of Hellenes Abroad (SAE), Mr. Stefanos Tamvakis. The even took place at the Hellenic Community of Alberton and was organized by SAE Asia-Africa region, the Holy Metropolis of Johannesburg and Pretoria and the Federation of Hellenic Communities of South Africa.

The following honored the event with their presence: The Metropolitan of Johannesburg and Pretoria, Mr. Serafeim, the Charge d� Affairs of the Embassy of Greece in Pretoria, Mr. Yiannakakis, the Consul General of Greece in Johannesburg, Ms. Aliferi, SAE Vice-President, Coordinator for Asia-Africa Mr. Vasilis Magdalinos, the President of the Federation of Hellenic Communities, Mr. P. Manikas and many Hellenes of the area.

Speeches were given by the Metropolitan, the Charge d� Affairs of the Embassy of Greece, SAE Vice-President/ Coordinator for Asia-Africa, the President of the Federation of Hellenic Communities and the distinguished lawyer and writer, Mr. George Bizos.

SAE Alternate President, Mr. Stefanos Tamvakis presented SAE�s activities in the areas of culture, education and youth as well as the future goals of the organization set at the recent SAE Board Meeting in Thessaloniki in the beginning of June. Mr. Tamvakis also mentioned the planning of a SAE Medical Center and a Center for the Elderly in S. Africa, and focused on issues such are the extension of the law regarding pensions for repatriated Hellenes and the amendment of the existing army related law regarding Hellenes Abroad. Finally Mr. Tamvakis congratulated the work of SAE Vice-President, Coordinator for Asia-Africa, Mr. Vasilis Magdalinos and thanked him for a very productive and successful cooperation.

Following the end of the speeches, a reception followed.
