SAE Vice-President, Coordinator for Europe Region, Mr. Angelo Aslanidis met with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Panayiotis Skandalakis and updated him on the conclusions and decisions taken during the recent meeting of the SAE Europe Coordinating Council that took place in Thessaloniki on July 3 & 4, 2004.
During the meeting the following issues were discussed:
a. The upgrading of SAE�s operation in order to be able to promote issues of the Omogeneia more effectively.
b. The upgrading and further support of the Hellenic Communities and Federations.
c. Mr. Aslanidis requested the beginning of an open discussion with the Hellenic Associations in Europe on educational issues. The two men also discussed issues of education at the countries of the Black Sea and the problems that exist in the area. Mr. Skandalakis mentioned the Government�s policy regarding the support of Hellenic education and noted that the main goal of the Government and the Prime Minister, Mr. Konstantinos Karamanlis is the upgrading and promotion of Education and Culture.
d. The need for the amendment of specific articles of the constitution of the National Fund of Hellenes Abroad. e. The issue of distant voting for Hellenes Abroad.
f. The support of the Hellenic Government to a European Policy for the Diaspora through the organization �EUROPEANS OF THE WORLD�, where SAE Europe is a member and participates with two representatives at its Board.
g. The Deputy Minister accepted Mr. Aslanidis� invitation to attend the conference organized by SAE Europe Region on issues of Hellenes Abroad-citizens of Cyprus (Greeks, Pontians, N. Hpeirus), at the end of August in Nicosia.
h. Finally the Deputy Minister accepted the invitation of SAE Europe Region to inaugurate the Medical Center in Starii Krijm, Mariupol and at the same time promised to contribute to SAE Europe�s efforts to medically equip the center.
