The Coordinating Council of SAE Asia-Africa Region concluded its meeting in Alexandria. SAE Vice-President, Coordinator for Asia-Africa, Mr. Vasilis Magdalinos presided at the meeting.
The main issues that were discussed during the meeting included the promotion of issues relevant to Hellenes in Asia-Africa, education and medical care. The issue was discussed during a meeting held among Mr. Magdalinos, the members of the Regional Coordinating Council and SAE President, Mr. Andrew A. Athens following the enthronement of the new Pope & Patriarch of Alexandria and all Africa, Theodoros B�. Mr. Athens noted that 2005 will be the year dedicated to Hellenes in Asia and Africa and stated that SAE will focus on the problems of Hellenes in the two continents.
The members of the Coordinating Council that come from Africa, the Middle East and Kazakhstan focus on the networking of Hellenes living in Asia and Africa with worldwide Hellenes.
The Regional Coordinating Council also discussed proposals regarding the new Enabling Law for SAE based on the upgrading of the world organization and the approach of the wide Omogeneia around the world.
On October 23, Mr. Magdalinos and the members of the Coordinating Council had a first meeting with His Beatitude the Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and all Africa, Theodoros B�, to whom they conveyed the full support of all Hellenes in Africa to Him and the Patriarchate. The new Patriarch expressed his willingness for cooperation with SAE to the benefit of all Hellenes and the Region of Asia-Africa.
The members of the Coordinating Council also met with the new Consul General of Greece to Alexandria, Mr. Theoharis Lalakos and with representatives of Local Authorities who expressed their respect for Hellenism of Alexandria. They also had a series of meetings with SAE Alternate President, Mr. Stefanos P. Tamvakis and SAE Secretary, Ms. Olga Sarantopoulou, who also attended the enthronement of the new Patriarch, as well as with the President of the Hellenic Community of Alexandria, Mr. Haralampo Katsibri.
