Andrew A. Athens, President of the World Council of Hellenes Abroad (SAE) sent the following farewell letter to the President of the Hellenic Republic, Konstantinos Stefanopoulos.
Your Excellency, On behalf of the Members of the Board of the World Council of Hellenes Abroad please accept our warmest thanks for the support you offered us all these years. The establishment of the World Council of Hellenes Abroad in 1995 coincided with your election for the first time at the supreme office of our homeland, which you have served so successfully all these years filling us, Hellenes of the Diaspora, with pride. You have given us courage and faith to continue with the same strength our work for the preservation of our Hellenic consciousness in all countries where there are Hellenes. You have encouraged us to continue our efforts for the promotion of the Greek Language, our culture, our national issues and Orthodoxy. Your call for the activation of all our powers to achieve the unity of worldwide Hellenism under the umbrella of the World Council of Hellenes Abroad in order to become even more effective has been for all of us a great motive. With this commitment we move to a new course with the agreement of all Greek political parties.
Your Excellency, Allow me to personally thank you for your support of the Medical Program of the World Council of Hellenes Abroad. I will always remember you inaugurating our first Medical Center in Tbilisi during your official visit in Georgia. All Hellenes around the world wish you good health, strength and every success for the future knowing that we have gained a good friend and supporter of our work.
Sincerely, Andrew A. Athens President
