Athens Information Technology, Kokkalis Foundation, Carnegie Mellon Univ. and Join to Promote /AIT TUITION SCHOLARSHIPS for Graduate Engineering Studies in Greece
Chicago, 1/4/2005

Programs combine Degrees with immersion in Greek Culture; Deadline for August Masters Program is April 18; Scholarship trims tuition from US$60,000to $10,000!

ATHENS, Greece,  March 24, 2005 V.P. and Regional Coordinator for The Americas, Chris P. Tomaras, reached agreement today with Thanasis Zesimopoulos of the famed Kokkalis Foundation to promote a new scholarship program for graduate engineering students in the Diaspora by the Americas Region of the World Council of Hellenes Abroad ().  The /AIT Scholarships are now available for one of the engineering programs offered by the prestigious Carnegie Mellon University through the Athens Information Technology (AIT) Center of Excellence for Research and Graduate Education in Athens, as well as for one of AITs own graduate programs.  Our Region is already proud to be sending a group of high school age computer students to Anatolia Colleges American College of Thessaloniki this summer, said Tomaras following his meeting with Zesimopoulos, and we are further pleased to join the Kokkalis Foundation, Carnegie Mellon and AIT in promoting this tremendous opportunity for another group of scholars from throughout the Diaspora: /AIT Scholarships for our university graduate students of Hellenic descent in the most important field of information technology.  This is just another example of Œs concern for the education of our Diasporas young people at all levels: elementary, secondary, graduate and post-graduate, and for enhancing their appreciation of our Hellenic heritage.  Full and partial scholarships are open to all students accepted for several advanced-degree programs during the year at the AIT Campus in Athens:

Master of Science in Information Networking (MSIN)  Application Deadline for August, 2005 Program: April 18
In collaboration with world-renowned Carnegie Mellon University (www.ini.cmu.edu), AIT is the only institution in Europe to offer this prestigious 16-month MSIN program, bringing together key technologies and techniques.  All successful graduates are awarded an MSIN degree directly from Carnegie Mellon University.  US$50,000 /AIT Scholarship available.  For more information:

Master of Science in Information and Telecommunications Technologies (MSITT)  Application Deadline for Sept, 2005 Program: June 10    The MSITT is a specialized 12-month academic program that provides participants with the training necessary to meet the increasing demands of the high-tech labor market.  Taking an interdisciplinary approach to electrical engineering and computer science, the program provides hands-on project training and offers two distinct directions of study: Telecommunications and/or Information Technology.  US$ 13,000 /AIT Scholarship available.  For more information:

The announcement of these scholarships comes just as the deadline for AITs next 16-mo. Master of Science in Information Networking (MSIN) program, which begins in August, approaches.  It happens that the April 18 deadline is upon us, but were using both traditional and electronic media, as well as the internet, to get the word out quickly to all our omogenias professional societies, and especially to our engineering community.  In addition, AIT is providing scholarships not only for this but for several other programs that it offers throughout the year, said Tomaras, who was in Greece for the Presidium meeting several days earlier.  The important thing is that our engineers of Hellenic descent around the world take advantage of these tremendous opportunities to earn an advanced degree from such a prestigious institution.  Equally important is that they will spend 12-18 months in Greece where they will receive a true experience of their Hellenic Heritage and Culture, and return to their profession as even better engineers and ambassadors of Hellenism, both within their profession and in their community, concluded Mr. Tomaras.
