The Council of Hellenes Abroad (), N. & S. America Region, supports the position of the PanMacedonian Association of U.S.A. with regards to the F.Y.R.O.M. name issue, which is not in agreement with the proposal of UN mediator Matthew Nimits.
Nimitss proposal, which is to be used as the basis for negotiations, uses the name Republika Makedonija - Skopje that is completely unacceptable since it still contains the term Macedonia as it is obvious that the term Skopje will be dropped and never be used. In addition, the Slavic version of this name is hard to be pronounced by English speaking people and as a result, the term Macedonia will be used handily once again by all.
On Tuesday, April 12, The PanMacedonian Association of U.S.A. will submit to the State Department the thousands of signatures collected by our office and other organizations as a protest to the recognition of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia by the American Government as Republic of Macedonia.
We believe that after this meeting, the American Government will persist in a just solution, propelled by the position taken by the Greek Community, and look forward to the handling of the issue by the Greek State with absolute dedication to the truth of history stated Chris Tomaras, V.P.
