SAE President at the Funeral Ceremony for Former Archbishop of N. & S. America
New York, 15/4/2005
The President of the World Council of Hellenes Abroad (SAE), Mr. Andrew A. Athens attended Wednesdays Sanctus and yesterdays Funeral Ceremony for former Archbishop of N. & S. America, Iakovos at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New York.
The Archbishop may not be with us anymore but his memory will be cherished by the hundreds of his friends, who came to honor the Hierarch who for 37 years served the Hellenic American community, stated Mr. Athens, who postponed his programmed trip to Europe for two days in order to honor a grand religious leader who served Orthodoxy and Hellenism for so many years.
Mr. Athens cooperated closely for many decades with the former Archbishop on a political and diplomatic level for the prevalence of freedom, the justification of Hellenic National Issues and the defense of justice with the blessing of a great religious leader who was acknowledged for his high spiritual status.
