The President of the World Council of Hellenes Abroad, Mr. Andrew A. Athens visited yesterday SAE�s Medical Center �Hippocrates�, which is now at its eighth year of successful operation.
The anniversary was celebrated with a very emotional ceremony during the visit of Mr. Athens at the Medical Center, accompanied by the Medical Director of SAE�s Medical Program, Dr. Charles Kanakis from Chicago.
Mr. Athens mentioned to the staff of the center that both the medical and administrative staff of SAE�s Medical Program in Georgia, most of whom of Hellenic origin, along with the Medical Director in Georgia, Dr. Roland Stamatov, have significantly contributed to the success of the program. In recognition of their work the administration of the Medical Center established annual honorary awards, the first of which were awarded by Mr. Athens. 
Mr. Athens and Dr. Kanakis had a meeting with Mr. Stamatov and the Medical Directors of the Medical Programs in Ukraine, Mr. Alexander Lazarenko and in Armenia, Mr. Simon Zacharov, who updated them on the development and operation of the local programs.
Special discussion was held for the Mammography Program that is successfully implemented in Ukraine with approximately 18 tests per day, while a mobile, medical unit travels to 14 villages of the area of Doniesk. It is worth mentioning that the department of the Ministry of Health of the area has send a thank you letter to SAE for the high quality medical services offered by SAE�s Medical Program.
In Armenia the program has expanded its offered services with a gastroscope department, while its mobile, medical units travel to 18 villages of the area of Alaverdi.
In Tbilisi the Medical Center �Hippocrates� has been equipped with a heart sonogram, new medical equipment in the physiotherapy department and the biochemistry lab. Through the Medical Center �Hippocrates�, the clinics in Tsalka and Tsiktsivari and the five nurses� stations at the areas of Gori, Bolnisi-Dmanisi, Opreti, Avranlo and Cobuleti, more that one million of free, primary medical services have been offered to Hellenes and their neighbors, regardless of nationality and religion.
During his visit to Tsalka, Mr. Athens distributed food packages to 1500 families as part of the Humanitarian Assistance Program of SAE that was established two years ago and during 2004 three shipments were made to Georgia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
Up to date, SAE�s Medical Program in the countries of the former Soviet Union and Albania, has offered medicine and medical equipment worth over $70 million. 2004 was a record year for the program through which more than 600.000 patients have received more than 2 million medical services.
