World SAE President will take part in Russia�s official ceremonies and visit Hellenic communities in the South, meet on new center plans

Andrew A. Athens, President of the World Council of Hellenes Abroad (SAE) is visiting Moscow to attend the commemorations honoring the 60 years from the end of World War II. The events will honor with their presence many heads of states from around the world including the American President, George Bush and the President of the Hellenic Republic, Karolos Papoulias.
�I am happy to celebrate with all free European citizens the events for the 60th anniversary of the end of the World War II. This day is a symbol of peace and solidarity for the entire world and gives us the strength to continue our struggles for a better future. We also honor the millions of people who sacrificed their lives for world peace,� Mr. Athens stated. Mr. Athens served four years in the war theaters of North Africa and in Europe where he attained the rank of a major in the U.S. Army.
During his stay at the Russian capital, Mr. Athens will have a series of meetings with representatives of the Hellenic omogeneia. Accompanied by Dr. Charles Kanakis, SAE Medical Affairs director, Mr. Athens will visit Miniralye Vody in Southern Russia. A medical center for Hellenes and their neighbors will be established in that area in collaboration with the Hellenic Government. Prime Minister Karamanlis formally announced the government�s participation in a statement during his visit to Russia last fall. Mr. Athens will meet with representatives of Hellenic organizations in Southern Russia.
On May 15 and following an invitation by Vladimir G. Kaishev, president of �Pontos� Federation in the states of the former Soviet Union, Mr. Athens will attend the unveiling of a memorial in Kalithea district of Athens in honor of Russians who died in wars in Hellas.
