MESSAGE OF SAE PRESIDENT ANDREW A. ATHENS FOR THE VICTORY OF THE NATIONAL BASKETBALL TEAM
Chicago, 26/9/2005
Andrew A. Athens, President of the World Council of Hellenes Abroad (SAE) congratulated from Chicago the Greek National Basketball Team for their great win of the European Championship. The message has as follows:
The remarkable win of the National Basketball Team has raised for once more Hellas to the highest place and proves that Hellas deserves to play a leading role in the European and global athletic scene, Mr. Athens said.
This new victory of Hellenic sports that follows the great victory of the National Football Team at the European Football Championship in July 2004 and the unforgettable Olympic Games of Athens, makes all Hellenes and especially the younger generations of Hellenes proud. At the same time such victories enhance the confidence of Hellenes around the world and make us all proud of our Homeland that is capable of reaching the top at such big events.
On behalf of the 11-member Board of the World Council of Hellenes Abroad and the Hellenes around the world I would like to congratulate all players of the National Basketball Team, its head coach, Panayiotis Yiannakis and all those who contributed for the success of this remarkable effort.
