Andrew A. Athens SAE President and the SAE Board met today with the President of the Hellenic Republic Mr. Karolos Papoulias and the Prime Minister Mr. Konstantinos Karamanlis. Present at the meeting were the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Panayiotis Skandalakis and the Board of the Special Permanent Committee of the Parliament for Issues of Hellenism Abroad, Mr. Evgenios Haitidis.
The President of the Hellenic Republic following an update on SAE�s activities and the new Enabling Law prepared by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs praised the work of the world organization and especially the support of the Omogeneia for our National Issues.
Mr. Papoulias noted that Hellenism abroad �is a great power� and that maybe all those who say that Hellenes Abroad are much more Hellenes than we are, are right. The President also mentioned that �we should solve the important problems of Hellenism Abroad, and especially those related to Education and the Greek Language.�
During the meeting with the Prime Minister, Mr. Konstantinos Karamanlis that took place at Megaron Maximou, Mr. Athens and the SAE Board expressed their views on issues regarding SAE�s strengthening.
During the discussion the Prime Minister stressed the fact that the new Enabling Law for SAE is of great importance for the Omogeneia and should be passed now that the long discussion with the wide base of the Omogeneia has been completed. At the same time the Prime Minister expressed his support for SAE�s Medical Program in the countries of the Black Sea and Albania.
On behalf of the Board, SAE President expressed to Mr. Karamanlis his thanks for the excellent cooperation with the Greek Government and especially the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Skandalakis, as well as with the Special Permanent Committee of the Parliament for Issues of Hellenism Abroad. Mr. Athens also thanked the Prime Minister for the hospitality programs for Hellenes abroad of all ages and requested their expansion in order to increase the number of participants.
The meeting focused on issues of Education and Culture. Within this frame the Prime Minister was informed of the programs run by SAE for the promotion and preservation of the Greek Language in the countries of the former Soviet Union, Africa and Asia, a part of which are implemented in cooperation with the Onassis Foundation. 
SAE Board members that participated at the meeting included: SAE Alternate President, Stefanos P. Tamvakis, SAE Vice President, Coordinator for N. & S. America Mr. Chris Tomaras, SAE Vice President, Coordinator for Europe Mr. Angelo Aslanidis, SAE Vice President, Coordinator for Oceania Mr. Kostas Vertzayias, SAE Vice President, Coordinator for Asia-Africa Mr. Vasilis Magdalinos, SAE Treasurer, Mr. Cos Georganas and SAE Secretaries, Mr. Elias Rallis and Ms. Olga Sarantopoulou. Also present was the President of the Federation of Hellenic Associations of Georgia, Mr. Kyriakos Iordanidis.
