Press Release
Thessaloniki, 6/5/2006
The Board of the World Council of Hellenes Abroad (SAE) concluded its meetings today at the SAE Thessaloniki Offces.
The meeting was very constructive since we agreed upon the basic clauses of the Enabling Law for SAE proposed by the Deputy Minister, Mr. Theodoros Kassimis, Mr. Athens said. SAE Board also met with the Presidium of the Special Permanent Committee of the Parliament for Issues of Hellenism Abroad, Mr. Evgenios Haitidis, President, Mr. Gregory Niotis, A Vice-President and Mr. Nikolaos Gatzis, B Vice-President. Our good cooperation reflects the great interest and support shown by the political parties of the Hellenic Parliament regarding the promotion of issues relevant to Hellenes Abroad by SAE.
We strongly believe that with the new Enabling Law, the World Council of Hellenes Abroad will be able to respond to the new challenges faced by Hellenism of the Diaspora regarding the preservation and promotion of the Greek Language and our culture, the promotion of our National Issues and the support of Orthodoxy and the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
Within the frame of the meetings SAE Board discussed issues and made proposals regarding distant voting and educational programs, the Centers for the Service for Hellenes Abroad (KEP), for Hellenism Abroad, the creation of a library for Hellenism Abroad in Thessaloniki, etc. At a special meeting issues were discussed regarding the organizing of the Regional and World SAE Convention based on the clauses and articles of the new Enabling Law for SAE that will be put to vote next month.
During the last day of the meetings SAE Board met with the Prefect of Thessaloniki, Mr. Panayiotis Psomiadis and the advisor of the Minister of Macedonia-Thrace, Ms. Evaggelia Patera.
