The Board of the World Council of Hellenes Abroad (SAE) participates at the works of the 15th Meeting of the Central Boards of the World Federation of Cypriots Abroad (POMAK) and the International Coordinating Committee �Justice for Cyprus� (PSEKA), following the invitation of the leaders of the two organizations.
Tassos Papadopoulos, President of the Republic of Cyprus declared the opening of the convention this morning.
At their greetings during the official opening ceremony, the Presidents of POMAK and PSEKA, Harry Sophokleidis and Philip Christopher noted their close cooperation with SAE and especially its President, Andrew A. Athens for the promotion of the Cyprus problem around the world.
Mr. Athens mentioned that for 32 years Hellenes Abroad fight for the promotion of the rights of Cyprus at the decision centers in the U.S., Great Britain, Brussels, Australia and elsewhere for a just and viable solution for Cyprus.
�Many times memories fade but Cyprus is never forgotten. We will continue our fight by the side of our Cypriot brothers and in close cooperation with the governments of Hellas and Cyprus,� Mr. Athens said.
SAE President also mentioned the valuable contribution of the former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Georgios Iakovou to Hellenism Abroad. Mr. Athens met for the first time the former Minister in 1975, when Mr. Iakovou and Archbishop Makarios visited Chicago. At a special event that took place last night at the home of the Greek Ambassador in Nicosia, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Theodoros Kassimis, honored on behalf of the Hellenic government Mr. Iakovou for his contribution to Hellenism Abroad.
The MPs and members of the Special Permanent Committee of the Parliament for Issues of Hellenism Abroad, Evgenios Haitidis-President, Gregory Niotis-A� Vice President and Nikolaos Gatzis-B� Vice President also attend the works of the meeting.
This afternoon the Central Boards of POMAK & PSEKA along with the SAE Board and Greek MPs, were updated by the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Tassos Papadopoulos for the recent developments on the Cyprus issue. Prior to meeting a wreath was laid in memory of the late Archbishop Makarios the 3rd.
At the evening SAE President and the members of the SAE Board attended a reception hosted by the Cypriot President.
