Ambassador Negroponte to be honored by UHAC in 30th anniversary celebration banquet Nov. 12
A grand celebration with an extraordinary honoree and reminiscences of important benchmarks in the history of Omogeneia will mark the 30th anniversary of the United Hellenic American Congress at the banquet that will be held November 12 at the Fairmont Hotel, 200 N. Columbus Dr., Chicago.
Ambassador John D. Negroponte, Director of National Intelligence in the U.S. and former U.S. Permanent Representative at the United Nations, will be honored for his contribution to America and for a life of service exemplifying the highest Hellenic values.
The Hellenic community in the U.S. has given to this country many distinguished public servants, literary figures and political leaders, said Andrew A. Athens, National Chairman of UHAC and President of World SAE.  It is very appropriate that as we commemorate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of our organization we should honor a man who has reached the pinnacle of public service in this country.
Noted author and story teller Harry Mark Petrakis will reminisce about special occasions in the life of the community and accomplishments in the history of UHAC since its inception following the invasion of Cyprus.
We have enjoyed the support of many distinguished Hellenes, some of whom are still board members of UHAC, Mr. Athens said. They include Frank Kamberos, John Marks, Jim Regas and Frank Manta, and also the late Tom Athens, Michael Svourakis and Jim Peponis.
UHAC is dedicated to bringing Hellenes and Phil-Hellenes together, united in one voice, to address the civic, cultural, social and educational issues facing Hellenes. UHAC was created to address Hellenic causes, when Hellenes around the world were shocked and outraged by the brutal invasion of Cyprus by Turkey.  While the rest of the world took little notice of the atrocities being committed against Cypriot Hellenes, the leaders of UHAC were propelled into action.
In the past 30 years, UHAC would safe guard the human and religious rights of Hellenes by working closely with the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, the Ecumenical Patriarchate and such Cypriot organizations as PSEKA, POMAK and the Cypriot Federation of America.
In Washington DC, UHAC National has the collaboration of the Coordinated Effort of Hellenes which is an advocate for a variety of issues important to Hellenism and Orthodoxy.
The preservation of Hellenism has been an important part of UHACs work  which was instrumental in securing a permanent home and tax incentives financing from the city, for the Hellenic Museum and Cultural Center in Chicagos historic Greektown.
Another project, Greek Heritage Week celebrations consists of an array of impressive cultural, social and educational events.  Teach Olympics in 2004 was an innovated and unique cultural program promoting the return of the Olympic Games to Greece in 2004 to public school students in Chicago and Philadelphia. The two symposiums on technology and investments opportunities in Greece held over the summer continue to demonstrate UHACs commitment to forging educational and economic relationships between Greece and the United States.
The 30th anniversary celebration will be begin with cocktails at 6:30 p.m. at the Fairmont Hotels International Ballroom, and continue with dinner and dancing to the music of the Linardakis Orchestra with Kate Rafferty.  Tickets to this special event are $175 a person, tables of 10 at $1,750.
