ATHENS MAYOR WINS WORLD MAYOR 2005 AWARD

THE NATIONAL COORDINATED EFFORT OF HELLENES (CEH)

WASHINGTON, D.C., Dec. 6 Athens Mayor Dora Bakoyannis selection as World Mayor 2005 was announced today by the City Mayors organization.  The voting response to the accomplishments and persona of Mayor Bakoyannis was extraordinary, by Hellenic organizations and individuals in the U.S. and around the world, with whom we communicated.  Her selection further thrusts Greece into the mainstream of world leadership, as did the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens and as does Greeces powerful leadership role in the Balkans and the Eastern Mediterranean region, said Andy Manatos, President of CEH and coordinator of CEHs campaign to help elect Mayor Bakoyannis for World Mayor.
ï¿½Courage, conviction, vision, passion and skill were the qualities the host of the competition highlighted as most essential for a world-class mayor.  Mayor Bakoyannis was selected over 550 nominated mayors world-wide and through the 87,000 votes cast.  Votes were based equally on the quality and conviction of supporting statements, as they were on the number received, said Manatos.
