Olympic Games

The Olympic Games of 2004 in Athens comprise for all Hellenes a challenge and an invitation. A challenge because we are called upon to unify our powers so that Greece may prove that it can and must organize the best Olympic games of the modern times and an invitation for Global Hellenism to offer its services for the common goal.

The participation of Hellenism through the Volunteerism program, in the organization of the Olympic Games and in the Olympic Flame Relay is an honor for all of us. The promotion of Olympic Ideals, the Olympic Truce and our Cultural heritage consist an obligation of every Hellene in every corner of the world. The collection of more than 10.000 volunteerism applications from Hellenes from 80 countries proves the enthusiasm of the Omogeneia and its interest for the successful organization of the Olympic Games 2004.

SAE encourages the Omogeneia to participate at the promotion and support of
  • The promotion of the games abroad, and especially for the enhancement of the belief that Greece is capable of organizing the best Olympic Games of modern times. For this reason, a very important initiative was launched through the Teach Olympics project. Through this program approximately 400,000 students of Chicago schools will be offered the opportunity to get acquainted with Greece, its Culture and the Olympic Games 2004. With the support of the Ministry of Culture we hope to be able to implement the program in other large cities around the world.
  • The promotion of the spirit of volunteerism and the Olympic Truce, through a variety of events, activities, initiatives and direct cooperation among the Greek Government and relevant agencies.
  • The promotion of sports that are not widely known in Greece, through participation at the structure of the relevant sports federations, the participation at the national teams and special demonstrations of sports.
  • The support of events and endeavors of individuals with special needs, in sight of the Paralympics 2004.
