A Hellenic Move for Humanity
The World Council of Hellenes Abroad has initiated a gigantic effort to support the Hellenes in these areas. Medical diagnostic centers are being established in areas where there is a strong Hellenic presence, yet these centers are to provide medical care for all residents. Hellenism thus emerges as a global relief force with a philanthropic dimension. A major step in implementing the medical relief program was achieved through the personal intervention of SAE World President Andrew Athens who succeeded in ensuring $1 million dollars worth of pharmaceutical aid through the US-AID United States Government program.
The first Medical Center in Tbilisi, Georgia is already functioning. The needs, however, do not end here. Eleven more medical centers in Georgia must be created so that the needs of the approximately 100,000 Hellenes in the mountainous villages of Tsalka are met; two larger medical centers are also under way in the Ukraine. An assessment conducted by SAE estimates that the medical centers in Georgia require $375,000 annually, whereas the two larger hospitals in the Ukraine require $300,000 annually.
This is why your help is crucial for the survival of this humanitarian project.
