Verdi's "Macbeth" at the Greek National Opera

Based on William Shakespeare's masterpiece "Macbeth", Giuseppe Verdi created an opera with the same title and story. Bearing the signature of the stage director Eike Grams and interpreted by a constellation of artists "Macbeth" is staged from December 3, and only for seven preformances at the Greek National Opera's "Olympia" Theatre. The role of the king of Scotland is consecutively performed by Wolfgang Koch, �yros Patsalidis and Robert Hyman.

The Conductor of the opera is Elias Voudouris, the Stage Director is Eike Grams, Sets are by Eberhard Matties, Costumes by Renate Schmitzer and the Chorus Director is Fani Palamidi

Main roles played by: Macbeth: Wolfgang Koch, �yros Patsalidis, Robert Hyman Lady Macbeth: Tatiana Serjan, Julia Souglakou, Banquo: Christophoros Staboglis, Yorgos Pappas Macduff: Stamatis Beris, Dimitris Stefanou, Dimitris Sigalos.

Lee Perry in Thessaloniki

Friday November 5, 2004- "Ydrogeios"

Jamaica comes to Thessaloniki! The "father" of reggae Lee "Scratch" Perry and The Robotiks will offer us a one in a life experience on Friday November 5 at "Ydrogeios". The concert will open with the Greek group "�tiko �inus". The producer Mad Professor will appear following the end of the concert.

"Dr. Jazz" in Athens

The "magician" with the turban and the Hammond organ will be the first to open the concerts' program of Half Note Jazz Club in Athens. He is the funkmaster Lonnie Smith, a pioneer in jazz rock and jazz funk, and a close friend and associate of Miles Davis. His nickname is Dr. Lonnie Smith, given to him by his musicians who are cured by his music. Dr. "Jazz" will be in Half Note Jazz Club in Athens on October 22-28, 2004.

Aliki-Moschi-Gauguet "Woman of Europe" for 2004

The awarding of the title "Woman of Europe" for 2004, to the Greek political scientist Aliki-Moschi-Gauguet, took place last night at the events hall of the European Parliament in Brussels. The title was awarded by the President of the European Parliament, Mr. Josep Borrell.

Aliki-Moschi-Gauguet is the President of the Foundation "Women-Arts-Mediterranean", that aims at the cooperation among cultures, the European-Mediterranean cooperation and the participation of women at programs for peace and prosperity in the Mediterranean region.

The famous French accordion-player and composer, Richard Galliano presents for one and only evening works of equally famous Argentinean composer Astor Piazzolla. The evening is titled �From Jazz to Piazzolla�, and is organized in cooperation with the French Institute of Thessaloniki.

All those who -like myself- are crazy for the Argentinean Tango make sure you be there!

It is the first time that some of the most characteristic excerpts of works of traditional Japanese theater are presented in Greece. On October 3, 4 & 5 at the Athens Concert Hall be prepared to experience the legends and fairy tales of an ancient, enchanted culture.

Joaquin Cortes to perform in Athens and Thessaloniki

July 5 & 7, 2004

Possibly the best flamenco dancer in the world is coming to Greece for two unique performances in Athens on July 5 at the Lycabbetus Theater and in Thessaloniki on July 7 at the Earth Theater. The proceeds of the Athens' performance will be offered to the creation of the Second Special Unit for Neuromuscular Diseases.

"Live" as is the title of the performance is full of music and songs. The music is composed by Joaqu?n Cort?s, Juan Parrilla and Antonio Carbonell and is a combination of Jazz, Cuban and classical music, based on the philosophy and spirit of flamenco.

Rockwave Festival 2004

At the specially prepared space "Terra Vibe" in Malakasa, 20 music groups from Greece and Abroad will rock us until we "drop", during the Rockwave Festival 2004 on June 18-22.

After two years of absence Rockwave Festival is back with famous music bands are artists such are Pixies, Placebo, Muse and Peter Gabriel, HIM, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Starsailor, Ill Nino, and The Soundtrack Of Our Lives (T.S.O.O.L.), along with Judas Priest, Nightwish, Queensryche, �ightfall, WASP, Dark Tranquillity, Firewind and Running Wild. With them we will listen to the Greek groups Raining Pleasure and Film as well as the Orchestra "Estudiadina of New Ionia" with music from Smyrna and Constantinople.

Anyone interested to make a presentation are kindly asked to submit an executive summary. The duration of presentations should be 15 minutes (additional time for discussion 5 minutes).

The suggested topics are the following:
  • Theoretical approaches to the teaching of the Modern Greek Language
  • Teaching Methods
  • Technology in Teaching Processes
  • Certification (examinations-diplomas-levels)
  • The contribution of various agencies in the Teaching of Modern Greek (Universities, Teaching Centers, Institutes)
  • Training of teachers (programs and directions)
