MESSAGE BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE WORLD COUNCIL OF HELLENES ABROAD (SAE) ANDREW A. ATHENS FOR THE CELEBRATIONS OF OCTOBER 28TH
Chicago, 25/10/2006
The heroic epic of 1940 is one of the most glorious moments in the history of contemporary Greece and its message still inspire Hellenes around the world. The unity of Hellenes during these difficult times when they said NO to the foreign invader and their just and heroic battle is the best message for us and the generations to come.
Hellenes around the world will honor the day, with their minds and hearts directed to our homeland. They will state for once more their decisiveness to defend with every mean the Hellenic issues and will continue to make any effort to promote the values of our culture in their host countries.
Eleven years after the establishment of the World Council of Hellenes Abroad we face future with hope and we aim to unite the endless and creative powers of Hellenes around the world for the promotion of Hellas.
These days SAE also participates at the celebrations of Thessaloniki, the capital of Hellenism Abroad, and honors St. Demetrios and the anniversary of its liberation in 1912.
