On the occasion of the Investiture of the new Archons the Brotherhood of the Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Canada organized on Sunday February 6, 2005 at the Metropolitan Center of Toronto its annual Benefit Luncheon.
The investiture on behalf of the Ecumenical Patriarch was done by His Eminence the Metropolitan Archbishop of Canada Sotirios at the Holy Church of St. Nikolaos in Toronto.
The official guests and the new Archons were welcomed by the President of the Archons of Canada and Treasurer of the World Council of Hellenes Abroad (SAE), Mr. Cos Georganas. The key speaker of the event was the Archon Maestor and President of the World Council of Hellenes Abroad, Mr. Andrew A. Athens.
In his speech the President of the Archons of Canada, Archon Notarios, Mr. Cos Georganas congratulated and welcomed the new Archons of Canada to the Brotherhood of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and stressed the importance of financial and moral support to the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
Mr. Athens thanked the Metropolitan Archbishop of Canada, Sotirios and the President of the Archons of Canada, Mr. Cos Georganas for their kind invitation, welcomed the new Archons and wished them strength for their work on the protection of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, Orthodoxy and Hellenism of the Diaspora.
Jim Karygiannis, MP Agincourt, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Transport conveyed the greetings of the Prime Minister of Canada presented the new Archons with awards on behalf of the Canadian Prime Minister.
Present at the Benefit Luncheon were representatives of the Cypriot and Greek Consulates, the Canadian Government, the Church and the Hellenic Communities of Canada.
The proceeds of the Benefit Luncheon will be offered in support of the high mission and works of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
