The OLYMPIA FORUM is organizing on June 6, 2005 at 17:00 at the Zappeion Megaron an event with the title The Cultural Role of Hellenism after the Olympic Games. Hellenes Abroad as the cultural leaders of Hellenism. During the event that is organized under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the OLYMPIA FORUM Award will be presented to Andrew A. Athens, President of the World Council of Hellenes Abroad (SAE), while SAE Vice-Presidents will also be presented with honorary awards. The President of OLYMPIA FORUM, Professor Mr. Marios Nikolinakos and the Alternate Minister of Culture, Ms. Fani Palli-Petralia will talk about the Cultural Role of Hellenism after the Olympic Games, while the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Panayiotis Skandalakis will talk about Hellenes Abroad as leaders of Hellenism. A round table discussion will follow with the participation of representatives of Hellenic organizations abroad, social and cultural agencies. The discussion will focus on the following subjects: the inheritance of the Olympic Games, the contribution of Greece to world civilization of the 21st century adn the role of the Hellenic State to the promotion of Hellenic Culture, the olympic ideals as the base for 21st century culture, Olympia as the world cultural center, etc. The following have been invited and will participate at the discussion: Professor Mr. Chris Yiannaras, Professor, Mr. Ioannis Metaxas and Professor Mr. Ioannis Panousis, the Metropolitan of Peisidia, Mr. Methodios Fougias, Professor, Mr. Dimitris Nanopoulos, Professors Mr. Adam Pepelasia and Mr. Emmanouil Badouvas, the Historian Mr. Kargakos Sarantis and other. SAE s role and the cultural role of Hellenes Abroad will also be discussed. OLYMPIA FORUM is a private, non-profit organization based in Olympia aiming at the creation in Olympia of an international place for Peace, Cooperation and Friendship among countries. The organization is supported by the Ministry of Culture. The Founding Declaration of the organization has been signed by more than 150 Hellenes and foreigners, all distinguished personalities who share the view that the Olympic ideals could become the base for 21st century culture.
